Important information regarding the 2009 County Competitions

By now we had hoped to be able to inform clubs of the 2009 dates. Unfortunately we are still unable to do this as we have been unable to finalise pool bookings. We have been informed by Tiverton pool that a decision has been made not to accept any bookings except those for Tiverton Swimming Club. So far, we have been unable to find out who has made this decision, and precisely why.

Needless to say we are fighting the ban and in the meantime will be making some contingency plans. You will all appreciate that not going to Tiverton will be a big blow as Plymouth and Tiverton are our best options by far and Plymouth limits the number of galas we can hold there.

Please rest assured we are doing everything we can and will publish the dates as soon as possible.

Dates for the Regional competitions are on the website but please note that the Championships in November will be short course (venue still to be decided) and at the beginning of the month to facilitate qualification into the National short course Championships in December.

UnLtd are working in partnership with Comic Relief to run the UnLtd Sport Relief Awards, a UK wide funding programme which is aimed at young people between the ages of 11 and 21, who want to use sports and recreation projects to address a social problem or conflict in their communities.

As well as cash, UnLtd provide a support package for successful applicants including one to one support, practical training and the chance to network with other Award Winners. Our Awards are granted to the young people themselves (not to organisations) and they apply directly to us.

There are two age categories within the award:

- In the 11 – 16 age group, Awards of up to £500 are given but applicants are legally obliged to have a project advisor (a youth worker, teacher etc).

- In the 17 – 21 age group, Awards of up to £5000 are granted and applicants do not need to have an advisor and complete the form themselves.
