Devon County ASA Championships 2012

The Championships will soon be upon us and this year and not as much has changed as we expected!  Due to the delay in the opening of the Life Centre we had to re-arrange much of the programme using old familiar pools, one of which we thought we had said a final goodbye!  As a result much of the organisation surrounding the swimming will be very similar to last year.

At Tiverton we will again need to restrict spectator entry to meet safety limits.  Clubs will be allocated tickets, which are transferable, in proportion to their entries for that day.  Clubs will need to appoint a person(s) to collect  and pay for them  on the day at Tiverton and manage the tickets for the club.  The car parking will again be at  Tiverton   High School .  Please proceed down to the roundabout and park on the left, avoiding the spaces designated for coaches.  The car park at the Leisure Centre should be left for other users unless you are a blue badge holder.  The charge for spectator tickets covers the cost of hiring the parking at the school.

If you have a trophy from 2011 please make it available to me (cleaned and sparkling) on the day the event is being competed.

I shall again be asking clubs for help on poolside and I will try to post the lists on this website as well as sending them direct to nominated club officers. Again club help is worked out in proportion to a club's entries.  This year at  Exeter  we will not be marshalling swimmers in the “underground” family changing areas.  This was an unpopular location with our volunteers and this year Marshalling will instead take place at the shallow end in full view and the results posted elsewhere.

For 18/19th  February the second warm up will not commence before 11:20 on both days.

There will be more later about the events at the Plymouth Life Centre.

That's it!  We look forward to some fast and exciting swimming.

South West Drive To Get More Of Us Swimming

As part of ASA South West's drive to get more people swimming, we have launched an online and household marketing campaign working with a number of target local authorities in the South West.

The campaign aims to raise awareness of swimming opportunities within local pools and encourage more participants back into swimming regularly.  Based upon local population make up, specific individuals will be targeted with household flyers, with vouchers tailored to appeal. In addition the region will be placing online advertising to drive traffic searches to the swimming offers website.

The region has a target of increasing adult participation in regular swimming (moderate intensity swimming for at least 30 minutes once per week) by 7290 people by April 2012.  The region is currently working with 13 local authorities and operators on the way they deliver swimming across their pools.  This is a different way of working for the ASA but aims to embed a culture change in swimming operation working closely with our local authorities and pool operators to make this happen.
