Devon ASA Talent Camp

The first of the talent camp days was held at Mount Kelly on the 22ndApril 2018. The event was attended by 24 swimmers that had been selected following the Devon Championships and 8 staff to support the swimmers. In total 12 clubs from across the county were represented.

The day consisted of a one hour gym session which focussed on Fundamental Movement Skills such as coordination, throwing, jumping and balance. There were two one hour pool sessions, held in the 25m pool, where the focus was very much on skills such as streamlining, aquatic alignment, underwater skills and transition into the stroke, although there was still time for a very exciting skills relay at the end of the second session. A one hour presentation was given in the afternoon on Effective Stroke Technique by Head Coach, Neil Shire, which was attended by both swimmers and parents.

The objective of the day was not only to pass on high standards of skills and behaviours to the swimmers that can be taken back to their home programmes but also to develop the skills and knowledge of the support staff of coaches and team managers. British Swimming very much see these days as the first step along the development pathway of both swimmers and support staff. Two further talent days with the same swimmers and support staff is planned for July and October.
